Steve Park Back In Camping World East Series Victory Lane Saturday At Adirondack
By Shawn Courchesne
Thirteen years after winning for the first time in the Camping World East Series, Steve Park was back in victory lane again Saturday.
The former Ellington resident led the final five laps to win The Edge Hotel 150 at Adirondack International Speedway in Beaver Falls, N.Y.
It was Park's first win in the division since July 1 in 1996 at the now closed Nazareth (Pa) Speedway. Park, a native of East Northport, N.Y., also has recorded victories in the Sprint Cup Series, the Nationwide Series, the Camping World Truck Series and the Whelen Modified Tour.
Park returned the Camping World East Series full-time in 2008. On July 11 at Thompson International Speedway Park looked to be on the verge of snapping his winless streak in the division before getting passed late in the event by Ryan Truex.
At Adirondack it was Truex chasing Park to the checkered flag in second place. Park took the lead for good by getting by Jody Lavender on a restart with five laps remaining. Truex got by Lavender late for second. Lavender held on to finish third. Montville's Matt Kobyluck, the reigning series champion, was fifth.
Pole winner Eddie MacDonald led a race-high 101 laps but fell back to 10th in the late going. Truex, who has 1,227 points, now holds a 26 point lead over Lavender going into the Mohegan Sun 200 on Aug. 15 at Lime Rock Park in Salisbury. MacDonald is third in the standings, 35 points behind Truex. Kobyluck is 60 points off the lead.
