Steve Park Post Race Report - Kansas

Steve Park and the Orleans Racing team just can't seem to catch a break lately and their latest disappointment came courtesy of a sheet-metal crushing crash at Kansas Speedway with just 31 laps to go.

The No. 62 team arrived at the 1.5-mile speedway with a brand spanking new race truck designated T-15 and after qualifying 14th fastest, Park had the highest of hopes for an up front finish.

Park made great progress early in the race until a speeding penalty during a pit stop under caution dropped him from sixth in the running order to 29th.

From then on Park was a man on a mission as he marched his way back toward the front.

He had passed 18 competitors on the racetrack and was knocking on the door to the top 10 when disaster struck in Turn 2.

As Park attempted to pass Rick Crawford on the inside, contact was made between the two and Park backed hard into the outside wall.

“I’m okay,” said Park after being cleared from the KC care center. “I hate that we lost another one. We were racing hard and the Orleans Dodge went around. We’ll see what we’ve got to take to Kentucky and see if we can get one of these done there.”

Thankfully, Park was uninjured in the bone-jarring incident but the same could not be said for the team's newest addition to the fleet and T-15 will have to be sent to time out for the foreseeable future.
