MARTINSVILLE, Va., April 16, 2004 – Steve Park, driver of the No. 62 Orleans Dodge in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, qualified 22nd April 26 for the Kroger 250 at Martinsville Speedway.
Park’s fastest lap was 20.865 seconds, 90.755 mph. Jack Sprague earned the Bud Pole with a lap of 20.499, 92.375.
“The truck was worse in qualifying. We were better in practice,” said Park, who ranked 20th in practice with a lap of 20.836, 90.881. “We made some changes after practice and thought we would run faster. We found a problem at the end of practice, and we fixed it before qualifying. The bad thing is that the change made the truck a lot looser. At least we know we can keep it consistent in Happy Hour and work toward our race setup.”
Park’s qualifying effort was similar to his two previous outings with Orleans Racing. He qualified 22nd at Daytona and 27th at Atlanta. “We don’t go to the racetrack to win qualifying,” Park said. “I’ve said it each week. We are out there to win the race, and we’ve had a really strong truck at both races. So that is proof that qualifying isn’t always a good indication of how you will be in the race.” The Kroger 250 at Martinsville Speedway begins at 1 p.m. (EST) April 17. It will be broadcast live on SPEED.
