Steve Park Post Race Report - Indy
Steve Park has had more than his share of bad luck this season and unfortunately that trend continued at Indianapolis Raceway Park.
When race day dawned dark and rainy, Park and his Orleans Racing crew were in for a long day of doing nothing until Mother Nature finally settled into a better mood late in the afternoon.
Park was assigned the 18th starting position when NASCAR went to the rulebook to set the grid. Not such a bad deal considering Park ranked 28th fastest during the one-hour practice session the teams managed to fit in prior to the race.
With so little time to work on the Orleans Racing Dodge crew chief, Charlie Wilson, realized that they were just going to have to “run what they brung.”
Park made some progress after the green flag flew and by the halfway point of the 200-lap race he had gained two positions on the racetrack.
It was on Lap 140 that Park’s situation went from bad to worse.
Attempting to make a pit stop under green flag conditions, Park’s truck slowed at the entrance to pit road and then stalled outright. With no caution flag to help his plight, Park lost 11 laps awaiting rescue. When the checkers flew Park was given credit for a 30th place finish.
