Steve Answers Your Questions, Part 2

I am an Alabama native and would love to see the trucks race at Talladega Super Speedway. What are your thoughts on this?

I have mixed reviews about the trucks running at Talladega and even running Daytona. You have such a mix of veteran and inexperienced super speedway drivers. It would be easier for a rookie to run those tracks first in a car since they are more balanced and easier to handle in the draft than a truck is.

Do you have trouble driving the speed limit after driving so fast on the track?

I am actually more relaxed on the street after a race. I guess I get all of my speeding and aggression out on the track. If anything, I may get pulled over for going to slow!

Steve, is there any chance you will run the Tommy Baldwin memorial race at Riverhead in some one's modified?

I would love to, but at this time I haven't been informed of a date. When it does come up, it is something that I would really be interested in participating in.

If you could race the Orleans Dodge at ANY track that the CTS does not currently hold an event, then which track would it be and why?

I would have to say Darlington, I just love racing there. It is disappointing that it was removed from the schedule this year. I would also have to say that going back to Rockingham would be something I would like to see. Both are great tracks and provide a lot of local race fans with some great racing as well.

What was the most difficult adjustment you had to make going from the cup cars to the trucks?

Aerodynamics was the most difficult adjustment. When you go from racing a sleek car to a truck it is like running through a hurricane carrying a piece of plywood.

After being hired and working for Dale Earnhardt, what are your most memorable racing experiences with him? What was your most funniest moment together?

I think my most memorable racing experiences with Dale would have to be the 2001 Daytona 500. The first part of the 500 all four cars, Michael, Dale Jr., myself and Dale were all in the front. It was a dream for us all to be running up front together.

The funniest would have to be when I was out riding with Dale and we were coming up to one of the gates at the shop, he had pressed the button to open the gate, but didn't slow down. I didn't want to say anything but the closer we got it didn't look like we were going to make it. So I said to Dale, "We're not going to make it!", to which he replied, "Don't tell a seven time WC champion how to drive." Well, we made it, without the two side mirrors. When I finally looked over at Dale, I didn't say anything, he just grinned and kept driving.
